Robert F. Kennedy Jr. believes that a lone gunman was responsible for the murder of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy (JFK). He said his father called the report of the Warren Commission, which investigated the death of JFK, "concern". Kennedy and his brother, Rory, talk about their families Friday night in front of an audience that packed the Winspear Opera House in Dallas. They were present to commemorate 50 years of the death of JFK. Their uncle died on 22 November 1963 in a motorcade through Dallas. Five years later, their father was killed in a hotel in Los Angeles while celebrating his victory in the Democratic presidential nomination.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said his father spent a year in order to accept the death of his brother. He spent time reading the works of Greek philosophers, Catholic scholar Henry David Thoreau, and poets to "try to figure out what kind of an existential implications of why God allows injustice to happen."
He said his father thought the Warren Commission, which concluded Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing the president, was "a bad job". He said he also questioned the report.
"The evidence at this point I think is very, very sure that he is not alone in doing this," he said. But he did not say what he believes may occur. Rose asked if he believes there is a connection between this murder and the intense efforts of his father, who was then the attorney general, a very aggressive crack down on organized crime. Kennedy replied, "I think it's true."
He said his father conducted a study to investigate the murder and find phone records Oswald and nightclub owner, Jack Ruby, who killed Oswald two days after the assassination of the president. "It's like a mafia job," he said.
He said his father, who later was elected U.S. senator in New York, "pretty sure" that there are other people involved.
He recalled that before going to Dallas, JFK promised him, who was still a child and the interest in nature conservation, for discussion in the Oval Office about the pollution. He even caught a salamander to be presented to the president. "Unfortunately, he died before the meeting," he said.
