The Murder of a Female Afghan

Gunmen killed the acting director of the Department of Women's Affairs of Afghanistan, Nadia Sidiqi, Monday (12/10/2012), only a few months after his predecessor was killed by a bomb.

Nadia Sidiqi the menjabar director for Laghman province in eastern Afghanistan was shot dead by two gunmen while trying to go to work on a motor rickshaw.

"We are investigating and have closed the area and we believe could soon catch the culprit," said Police Chief Ahmad Sherzad Laghman.

Sidiqi take over the vacant position of director after his predecessor died Hanifa Sari bomb attached to his car last July.

So far, no one ever said the group was responsible for this attack. However, the most likely culprit is the Taliban who are fighting the Western-backed Kabul government.

The group is known to be highly curb women's rights when in power in Afghanistan 1996-2001 before the U.S. invasion toppled.

Earlier this month, a young woman who is also a health volunteer was shot dead outside his home in Kapisa province, which borders Laghman.
