Suicide Bombing kills us embassy

A Turkish police officer says a suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives at the entrance of the U.S. Embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara, killing at least two people.

An Associated Press reporter saw a dead body on the road at the entrance to the embassy. The explosives were likely to explode in the checkpoint at the embassy visa application. A number of ambulances have been deployed to the scene. AP reporter saw at least one woman seriously injured were brought into one of the ambulances.

Meanwhile, a local television station NTV reported the two guards on duty at the entrance to the embassy to be killed. The U.S. embassy has very strict safeguards. The office is located near several embassies including German and French embassies. The police are now closing scene of the blast and stopped journalists to enter.

So far, no single group has claimed responsibility, but Kurdish rebels and the number of active militants are known to operate in Turkey. In 2003, the militant group linked to al-Qaeda suicide bombings in Istanbul, killing 58 people. At that time they target the British consulate, a British bank and a synagogue.

In 2008, an attack blamed on groups affiliated with al-Qaeda occurred outside the U.S. consulate in Istanbul. In the shootout three attackers and three policemen were killed.
