Maiduguri - At least 15 explosions and gunfire rocked the city in northeast Nigeria, Maiduguri on Monday (15/10/2012) at Nigerian troops fighting Islamic militants there.
Soldiers have locked most of the city center, but it is still not clear what happened exactly in Maiduguri because the Nigerian government would not comment on the situation, the AP reported.
Witnesses at one of the blast said that the elementary school on fire.
International journalists are not able to get more information because they are stuck at the local governor's office complex when police locked all entrances, reports Russia Today.
The town is regarded as the power base of Boko Haram Mujahideen, has witnessed escalating violence. Earlier this month, at least 26 people, mostly students, were killed by unidentified gunmen in Mubi town, not far from Maiduguri. Attack after attack on civilians occurred there and the Mujahideen Boko Haram became a scapegoat for every attack that occurred.
